Research confirms: we miss out on a lot of VAT in Europe

We all know that we can reclaim the VAT on expenses incurred as a business in other EU Member States from the Dutch tax authorities. Yet, surprisingly often these claims are not made. Do you also belong to the 54% of European companies that do not reclaim foreign VAT?

Reclaiming VAT - it is often left unfinished

If your employees incur expenses in another Member State, you can reclaim the VAT. But this can sometimes be quite a tricky business. With so many Member States, there are also many different rules on when exactly VAT can be reclaimed. In practice, many claims are often not made even though the company is entitled to a refund.

More than half of EU businesses fail to reclaim VAT

As many as 54% of European companies do not reclaim foreign VAT. This is evident from a report by SAP Concur, The hidden potential of VAT reclaim. The report is the result of a survey of 3,500 European finance managers.
