Research confirms: we are missing out on a lot of VAT in Europe

We all know that we can reclaim VAT on costs incurred as a business in other EU member states through the Dutch tax authorities. Yet those claims are surprisingly often not made. Are you also among the 54% of European businesses that do not reclaim foreign VAT?

Reclaiming VAT - it often lags

If your employees incur expenses in another state, you can reclaim that VAT. But that can sometimes be quite a tricky issue. With so many member states, there are also very different rules about when exactly VAT can be reclaimed. In practice, many claims often go unclaimed even though the company is entitled to a refund.

More than half of EU businesses do not reclaim VAT

As many as 54% of European companies do not reclaim foreign VAT. This is according to a report by SAP Concur, The hidden potential of VAT reclaim. The report is the result of a survey of 3,500 European finance managers.
